Pros and Cons of Studying MBBS Abroad

MBBS is the most sought after medical degree both in India and all over the world. Medicine has always been one of the most popular career options in India. But, in recent times, many Indian students are going abroad to study medicine but still with the question, is studying MBBS abroad worth it.

India has a lot of problems when it comes to medical education. One of the most daunting ones is the number of medical seats in government colleges. There is a huge demand for government college seats in India. But, there is a very limited number of seats available. This has created a huge disadvantage for students as many will struggle to secure an MBBS seat.

Over 13 Lakh students appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in India, which is an entrance test to almost all the medical schools in the country. That number is huge, compare it to the meager seats in government colleges and we can clearly see a problem.

The alternative to this is to join in a private medical college. In India, private colleges are very expensive to the average middle-class student. The cost might even go up to 50 Lakh INR to get into a decent college. This is higher than the cost to study in some other countries such as the Philippines, Russia, China, Bangladesh, etc. This is exactly why many Indian medical students go abroad to study MBBS, try Studying MBBS Abroad

MBBS in the Philippines is one of the best alternatives to MBBS in India. The Philippines offers exotic delicacies and is quite the place for anyone to study. It is an international hub, with a great tourism market internationally.

The Philippines is known for its cheap cost of living. The Philippines also offers quality education for the lowest prices. It is estimated to cost around 15 Lakh INR to pursue one’s MBBS in the Philippines.

Of course, in the Philippines, MBBS is known as MD, not to be confused with the postgraduate degree. MD in the Philippines is equivalent to MBBS in most countries including India. Many universities in the Philippines are recognized by the MCI and hence it is a great place for Indian students to study medicine.

Pros and Cons of Studying MBBS Abroad

There are a lot of benefits of studying medicine abroad. Some of them are:
  • No donation required
  • The tuition fee in most MCI approved foreign universities is less than that of Indian private colleges
  • A lot of international exposure
  • High international opportunities
  • Exposure to different cultures
  • More research opportunities
  • Less competition and more number of seats

The experience of studying abroad is the dream of many Indian students. Going to another country is very helpful to one’s career in general. So, there are many benefits to studying MBBS in a foreign country. But, there are a few cons too for studying abroad.

These are:
  • Language Barriers
  • Entrance tests such as TOEFL, IELTS etc.
  • Different disease patterns

Many countries other than Nepal and Bhutan have a very different climate and disease patterns. This is very important in MBBS as this can heavily influence the ability to operate and practice medicine in India. The Indian health system is completely different and if one wants to come back to India to practice medicine, they have a pass a screening test by the MCI (Medical Council of India).

These disadvantages might seem daunting at first, but they can be very solvable. Many students face these problems and solve them. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages in general and that makes studying MBBS abroad a very good option. That’s the reason many Indian students are going abroad.
